For some number of months, an eight county region around Madison, Wisconsin has been collaborating to build a coordinated economic development strategy. Interestingly, they started with a "no name" organization: the Regional Economic Development Entity (REDE). Purposely, they avoided focusing on a name and instead focused on specific activities that they could work jointly. As the next stage in their development, the economic development professionals working on the collaborative project have developed a new name: Thrive. It's interesting to see that the organization has picked a name that has no geographic connotation. Read more.
