Work readiness certification is spreading as an important credential. These certificates provide a system for certifying the basic skills necessary for success in the workforce.  These skills are tied to 21st-century skills and Work Keys.  

Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Virginia provide work ready certifications. A number of other states, including New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia are affiliated with the National Career Readiness System.
