Recruitment has been the backbone of many rural economic development programs for decades. Now, however, recruitment strategies are facing a difficult economy ahead. The pipeline is drying up.
As a result, we will see more and more communities in rural regions looking for alternatives. Focusing on entrepreneurship through initiatives such as economic gardening or Home Town Competitiveness presents an important alternative.
Focusing on arts, crafts and ecotourism is a logical place to start. In Northwest Arkansas, a group is coming together to do just that. Read more.
